Mamady Keita Workshop Wrap-Up

This year’s Mamady Keita workshops were a huge success! This sold-out weekend was an exciting time of joy, community and celebration. People came from as far away as California to attend Mamady’s classes! There was even a group of musicians on tour from Ghana who came to the djembe intensive! Throughout the weekend, Mamady generously shared his culture and music, creating an atmosphere of warmth and fun. No one went home without a smile on their face!

Highlights From The Weekend

  • As a sign of Mamady’s increasing popularity, several of this year’s workshops sold out weeks ahead of time.
  • Mamady Keita was featured in an interview on NPR/WFDD, in the Winston-Salem Journal, and in the Chronicle.
  • Mamady publicly awarded Bill Scheidt, Living Rhythms Director, as a certified Tam Tam Mandingue professor.
  • Mamady made an appearance at the Arts Based Elementary School in Winston-Salem where he did an hour long question and answer session with the students.
  • Farafina Kan blew everyone away at their Saturday night performance and Sunday morning dance class.
